UMRSWPP staff is working with state and
local entities in selecting and implementing best management practices
and other source water protection strategies. Local Projects include:

C.R.O.W. - Crow
River Organization of Water.
The Crow River Organization of Water ws formed in 1999
with the intent of providing comprehensive leadership in improving
the water quality of the Crow River and its tributaries. Funding for
the CROW's strategic planning process was provided by the Upper
Mississippi River Source Water Protection Project.

- Urban Conservationist Position -
In response to the growing

challenges of changing landscapes and the continuing threats to area
resources, the
Stearns County Soil and Water
Conservation District, in cooperation with the county,
municipalities, and the Upper Mississippi River Source Water
Protection Project, hired Carrie Anderson as the new Urban
Conservationist. The urban conservationist will be interacting with
communities to help them reach implementation goals
for their wellhead/source water protection plans. In addition,
technical assistance will be provided for stormwater management,
sediment and erosion control, protection of natural resources
through local ordinances and arising needs as identified by the
community to protect drinking water sources.

Make the Water Connection - The
Central Minnesota Water Education Alliance (CMWEA)
develops and implements educational programs that encourage water
quality stewardship. Major funding for the 2007 Make the Water
Connection campaign was provided by the Upper Mississippi River
Source Water Protection Plan and the Stearns County Water Management
